Launch of Valuing People Now Resource Pack
 
We have recently released the Valuing People Now Resource Pack which is intended to raise awareness of the issues and support good practice locally and across all sectors.
 
The pack includes the specially commissioned DVD, 'Valuing People Now, real life stories' which covers some of the key messages and priorities in Valuing People Now. It also contains the recently published Health Action Planning Guidance.

No Secrets

The Government is looking at the rules for when people are abused. The rules are called 'No Secrets'.
 
They have asked everyone across the country to tell them what they think of the rules and how they work.

The National Forum and Valuing People Support Team asked Inclusion North to find out what people with learning disabilities think should be in the 'No Secrets' rules.

Health Needs of People with Learning Disabilities Annual Evidence Update

People with learning disabilities have a  higher level of health needs than the general population, many of which are unmet. This Annual Evidence Update from the NLH Learning Disabilities Specialist Library provides bibliographies of published research for some key health issues.

Easy health website

A new easy health website has now been launched and the address is www.easyhealth.org.uk we have helped to fund this & it provides navigation to loads of easy to understand health information.

Learning Disability Knowledge Sets

Skills for Care have developed five Learning Disability Knowledge Sets. They are available on the Skills for Care website: www.skillsforcare.org.uk/view.asp?id=994

Hate Crime Grants
Valuing People decided it would give £18,000 worth of small grants to help local groups do more to stop Hate Crimes against people with learning disabilities.>  These grants are £2,000 for a project from each region.

Here is a new guide about short breaks written by Paradigm
www.pcc.nhs.ukFPLD have launched a new Primary Care Service Framework for the Management of Health for People with Learning Disabilities.

It is launched with practical resources to help GPs deliver annual health checks for people with learning disabilities with support. These have been developed jointly by Primary Care Unlimited, the Valuing People Support Team and the Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities

CSIP have brought out a report called "Commissioning for people with learning disabilities - a tale of two nations. The report looks at how councils spend their budget for adults with learning disabilities. It shows that there are big differences across England in how the money is used.

The Care Services Improvement Partnership (CSIP) today publishes Getting to grips with commissioning for people with learning disabilities, a report that aims to help councils improve the way they commission and pay for services. It focuses particularly on how councils can better spend their money.

No One Knows
No One Knows is a UK-wide programme led by the Prison Reform Trust that aims to effect change by exploring and publicising the experiences of the people with learning difficulties and learning disabilities who come into contact with the criminal jusitice system. This programme will run until October 2008.
