Supporting Parents with Learning Disabilities - new publication
The Norah Fry Research centre has just published 'Supporting Parents with learning disabilities and difficulties: Stories of Positive Practice'.
This booklet showcases six stories where parents have been enabled, with the right support from professionals, to look after their children and safeguard their welfare.
 | The booklet was launched in December 2009 by the Working Together with Parents Network at a party hosted by the Baring Foundation in London. For information about the launch visit www.bristol.ac.uk/news/2010/6816.html |
This booklet follows on from the 2007 guidance, jointly published by DH and DCSF (then DfES): 'Good practice guidance on working with parents with a learning disability.'
Supporting parents with learning disabilities is a firm commitment in Valuing People Now and DH are currently finalising guidance for the commissioning of services to support families affected by parental learning disability. This guidance is due to be published this spring as part of a pack, which will include the 'Stories of Positive Practice'.
Further guidance on completing and signing off the Partnership Board self assessment annual reports.
The Department of Health have issued further guidance and a Q&A sheet to help Partnership Boards to sign off their annual reports:
The new guidance is about supporting people with learning disabilities and family carers to sign off the final reports. This has been drafted by the National Valuing Families Forum and the National Forum for People with Learning Disabilities.
The Q&A sheet is a response to the questions and enquiries the department have recieved since publishing the 'Getting the best from your Partnership Board' pack in November 2009. Most of the questions have been about data and the March 31st deadline.
The guidance and Q&A both refer to a revised 'sign off' sheet - to replace the sign off page at the end of the current report. This is available here as a word document and can be downloaded, printed and saved by clicking the link below:
