High Support Person People with high support needs
Valuing People is about all people with a learning disability. But sometimes people who need a lot of support get a worse deal. So we need to do more work to include them, and to give them the same chances as everyone else. This page gives you the Team's checklists for Partnership Boards.
Clipboard Valuing People is for everyone - checklist for Partnership Boards
The Learning Disabilities Task Force said in their last report that people with high support needs are getting left out of the changes people are making. We worked with them to write this checklist for Partnership Boards. It doesn't ask Partnership Boards to write new plans, but it does help them check that the plans they already have include people with high individual support needs. It is:
  • The main paper, to talk about what it is all about and what we think Partnership Boards should do
  • Papers with questions on. These are to help sub-groups think about how they have included people with high individual support needs, and what more they could do
  • A Big Grid to fill in altogether at the main Partnership meeting. This was printed as a massive poster, and 1 has been sent to each Partnership Board. Here we have just put an A4 version here so you can see what it looks like.

Changing Places, Changing Lives

The Changing Places Consortium has launched a campaign on behalf of the thousands of people with profound and multiple learning disabilities and their carers, and the many other disabled people who cannot use standard accessible toilets.

They need Changing Places toilets.

These are toilets with enough space for disabled people and their carers, and the right equipment, including a height adjustable changing bench and a hoist.
There are almost no public Changing Places toilets in the UK.
Providing these toilets in public places would make a dramatic difference to the lives of thousands of people who desperately need these facilities. Sometimes you just need to change one thing to open up a world of possibility.
