Education Education

This bit of the website is about education for people who are over 16. This usually means going to college.

Having said that, there's a Disability Rights Commission (DRC) paper about schools for children at the bottom of this page.

What does Valuing People say?

Valuing People says that people with learning disabilities should have the same opportunities for post 16 education as everyone else.

Valuing People has 11 objectives. Objective 7 says:

"To enable people with learning disabilities to lead full and purposeful lives within their community and to develop a range of friendships, activities and relationships."

For this to happen the government expects Partnership Boards to do things that help people with learning disabilities to get a full range of opportunities for education throughout their lives.

Debate about schools

The Disability Rights Commission write a paper saying what they thought about disabled children going to special schools and mainstream schools.
