What does Valuing People say?

Valuing People came with an extra book about the extra problems for people from black and ethnic minority communities. It was called 'Learning Difficulties and Ethnicity'. You can find it on the 'Useful papers and links' page.

Valuing People said that the services and support for people from black and ethnic minority communities often does not meet their needs.

All of Valuing People applies to people from black and ethnic minority communities the same as to everyone else with a learning disability.

It says that there are good things happening for people from black and ethnic minority communities across the country, but in lots of places things aren't good enough.

It says that services have to do what the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 says. This means they have to make sure their services are giving people from black and ethnic minority communities good support, that means everyone's cultural needs.

It also says that there should be representation from people from black and minority ethnic communities on Partnership Boards.

We help to improve services and achieve better outcomes for children and families, adults and older people including those with mental health problems, physical or learning disabilities or people in the criminal justice system. We work with and are funded by DH Logo
